Continuous monitoring

Indoor air quality monitoring — turning invisible air into actionable data

Modern IAQ monitoring stitches together sensor hardware, calibration, dashboards and alerts so building operators see — and act on — air quality the moment it changes.

Hardware

Best indoor air quality sensors — what to look for

The best indoor air quality sensors disappear into the architecture: minimal LED, recessed mounting, OTA firmware. Inside, NDIR CO₂, laser PM, electrochemical NO₂ and MOX TVOC modules report at 1–5 minute intervals over secure mesh networks.

When we specify air monitoring sensors for UK clients we screen on five criteria: NDIR CO₂ accuracy of ±50 ppm with auto-calibration, optical PM2.5 stable to ±10%, factory-calibrated humidity and temperature, secure LoRaWAN or Wi-Fi connectivity, and a documented calibration cycle. Indicative TVOC is fine for trending; specific compounds still need sorbent-tube sampling and laboratory analysis.

Sensor placement matters as much as sensor brand — breathing-zone height, away from supply diffusers and direct sunlight. A great sensor in the wrong place tells the wrong story.

Deployment

From pilot to portfolio

  1. 1

    Phase 01

    Baseline diagnostic

2-week multi-zone deployment to surface hotspots and validate sensor placement.

  2. 2

    Phase 02

    Permanent install

Networked sensors per critical zone, integrated with BMS where available.

  3. 3

    Phase 03

    Dashboards & alerts

Custom thresholds, weekly digests, integration with Teams / Slack / FM tools.

  4. 4

    Phase 04

    Continuous improvement

Quarterly review, calibration cycle and ventilation optimisation.
